Fruitful – Free
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
(Galatians 5:22-23)
Think of a vineyard, an orchard… a flourishing garden …
The necessity of keeping the soil healthy and getting rid of weeds, to ensure a harvest.
John 15 tells us that Jesus is the vine we are the branches.
If we are submitted to the Holy Spirit we will naturally produce His fruit. If we are struggling to  produce fruit, then we need to ask ‘what is it that I’m submitting to?’
Fear, sin, greed, jealousy.
The Greek word translated “fruit” refers to the natural product of a living thing.
Paul used “fruit” to help us understand that which is produced by the Holy Spirit in our lives.

The fruit of the Spirit is His produce, it is by the Holy Spirit, not of the flesh or human ability, it is not by our own effort!

The Greek word is singular, showing that “fruit” is a unified whole, not having independent characteristics.
As we grow, all the characteristics of Christ will be manifested in our lives. There is a fullness and completion in Him.
As love grows, so does joy and peace and patience.
Yet, like physical fruit needs time to grow, the fruit of the Spirit will not ripen in our lives overnight. Just as any successful gardener must battle against weeds, and other infestations before they can enjoy the sweet fruit they desire, we must constantly submit to God, and resist the devil, (James 4:7), in order to rid our lives of the weeds of our old sinful natures that want to choke out the work of the Spirit.
We often think of the GIFTS of the Holy Spirit as being the powerful demonstration of the work of the Holy Spirit, and yes of course they are, but don’t underestimate the POWER of the FRUIT of the Holy Spirit. The consistent produce within our lives WILL IMPACT THE WORLD.
When we are submitted to the Holy Spirit, the fruit is naturally produced and will be seen, experienced and desired by those we meet in our every day lives.

Let God’s love, peace, joy and patience flow from you to all those you encounter today.
